kurio workshops
pursuing curiosity through workshops
kurio brings people together through unique learning experiences. we curate workshops from our favourite local entrepreneurs and organizations to highlight the diverse world of interests and initiatives around us.
here's our story:
in 2018, rachel and michelle hosted a sushi making workshop to raise money for a community organization. although we were no experts, we had years of experience making sushi with our family and friends. the workshop brought together like-minded people, eager to learn together and come out of the event with tangible takeaways. as hosts, the experience was more meaningful than we could've imagined, coming out of the event with new friends and that feeling you get when you share a song with someone and they like it.
fast forward a few years, devona and michelle were walking around a museum together. we talked about how nice it felt to have meaningful experiences with our friends. to learn from one another and to learn together. we talked about how we were curious about so many things. we wanted to learn how to make pottery, paint, and skateboard. but where to start?
we wanted an excuse to learn new skills from our friends and the people around us. the part-time artists, chefs, musicians, designers, and more. kurio started as a catalyst for us to pursue our own curiosities, while opening the door for others to join.
from learning how to cook a 7-course mediterranean feast, to making zero-waste personal hygiene products, to producing podcasts, kurio explored a wide range of interests in the form of fun and accessible workshops.
workshop hosts were usually friends or friends of friends. for example, sarah was one of the hosts for alegoria's wellness workshop - where participants used a board game as a means to regulate the nervous system and incite meaningful conversations. tiffany's mom shared her family's favourite chinese recipes in the tastes like home workshop series - where home cooks from around the world shared stories behind their culture's cuisine. both of these workshops raised money for charities of the host's choice.
today, kurio continues to be a platform for us to learn together and raise money for organizations that we care about. an excuse for us to dabble in what makes us curious and invite others along the way. interested in hosting a kurio workshop? get in touch!
